
Scaffolding as well als formwork are important elements in the construction sector serving each one a very specific function.
Formworks are used when moulding wet concrete and drying and hardening it in order to obtain the needed forms. The forms are normally used temporarily until the concrete hardens and the form that is created can support its own weight and consequently support elements in several directions as for example pillars, ceilings, etc.
Scaffolds meets the time function to provide access to people during the construction work, maintenance or repair. Scaffolding and formwork are different structures but both help reaching heights and allow access to perform tasks that would be impossible otherwise. In turn, the formwork structures reaffirm the structures with concrete.
Scaffolds are modular systems that are composed of plates, couplers and tubes, these components can be made from metal, wood or bamboo particularly in Asia (you can read a very interesting article in this blog on these scaffolds) where bamboo is widely used. The configuration can be very different depending on the utility that will be given to the structure. At this point we can classify generically in lightweight scaffolding (normally used for cleaning, painting, carpentry, etc.) heavy scaffolding (for works that are related with concrete rehabilitation, new construction, etc .. usually supplemented in the process with formwork laying the concrete structures) mobile scaffolds (usually made of aluminum, equipped with wheels with brakes and its main feature is to facilitate movement at very low cost being mounting and dismounting very simple), zip up scaffolds (used for facade works allowing to cover a broad surface with high load capacity with quick assembly, a disadvantage is that the installation is linear).
Safety on scaffolding is an indisputable premise, they must be safe and resilient as they will be used by groups of people and variety of purposes and situations.
In the possible configurations used security systems such as guardrails or systems that work as ramps are used.
The formwork must be resilient and heavy duty (concrete). It is installed to give pressure and form to the concrete, particularly at the base.
Ultimately scaffolding and formwork are essential elements in the construction industry because of the possibility of creating multiple ways to facilitate the work and their great security.
